How to Change Traditional Applique to Wool Applique

In this class, participants will learn how they can easily convert a traditional applique pattern into a wool applique creation.  I will supply several traditional applique blocks for each member to choose the one they would like to try.  I have purchased the pattern “Celebrating Mary Brown” c1840.  This pattern has an abundance of birds & flowers, animals & fruits, baskets and more.  In the original design, each block was then pieced into 90” by 90” quilt that was then made into a floor covering.  This quilt also has a 50” by 50” center block.  The majority of the blocks are 10” square, finished.  Some center blocks are 15” square or a 10” by 30” rectangle.

The pattern we will be using was designed from the original quilt by Corliss Searcey for Treadbear.  The blocks will range in skill level from very easy to a medium skill level.  Each block pattern will have templates labelled with instructions and hints.  The templates are specific to each block.  Class members will choose their block when they register.  Prior to the class, you will receive a color picture of your block, a placement chart, a piece of background fabric, a chenille needle and some freezer paper.  When you register you will also receive a class supply list.  You get to choose what colors of wool you might like to use.    There is also an option to have a kit prepared for you with all you will need to complete this project.
