Surface Embellishment on Wool with Embroidery

Surface Embellishment on Wool with Embroidery

This class is for an experienced wool appliquer.  The project for this class is a 4.5” by 3.5” pincushion pattern on a wool background designed by Sue Spargo.   Creating a wool piece involves applying the wool to a background of cotton fabric, flannel or wool.  Just buttonhole stitching the pieces of wool to the background fabric will create an eye-catching piece of work, but sometimes we want more than just a flat wool picture.  This class will teach you how to create a work of art that incorporates surface stitching on the pieces of wool that will enhance the design of any wool applique creation.

We will explore a variety of stitches, use some of Sue Spargo’s applique threads (Ellana Wool Thread, Efina Cotton Applique Thread, Eleganza Pearl Cotton Thread) and use her creative stitching techniques.  I will bring several projects to the class for you to look at.  A kit will be provided if you wish to create the pin cushion project. And, of course, you may choose any design of your own you might wish to stitch.  Sue’s website will provide you with an abundance of suggestions and inspiration.   An additional supply list will be provided at registration.
