Demo Derby Divas and Demos:

Sharon Williamson - CATS

Sharon will guide you through how she selected magazines and catalogs to discover some awesome cats and will explain her creative process in making them. She'll also share decision-making tips and showcase items she used for crafting purses.

Nancy Levant - SMALL DUFFEL ZIP BAG

The small duffel zip bag is an easy item to make for gifts, travel or daily use. A fabric place mat and a 14” zipper is all you need. Or, just use two pieces of 14” x 19” fabric. The duffel has boxed corners so that it sits flat and can be filled without fear of items spilling out.

Organizations have used these small duffel bags to fill with toiletries to give to women’s shelters. Other uses include to carry medications for travel and they make terrific containers for small toy and game items. With appropriate fabric, these small duffels are useful to every member of the family.

Carol Jones - FOUNDATION PAPER PIECING (FPP)

Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) is one of the many ways to make a quilt block.  Carol will help you think upside down and backwards so you will at least try Foundation Paper Piecing.  According to Google AI, Foundation paper piecing (FPP) is a quilting method where a temporary paper pattern is sewn onto fabric to create precise and intricate designs that are difficult to achieve with traditional piecing alone.  Quilters sew fabric pieces directly onto this paper foundation, following pre-printed lines, and then tear the paper away after the block is complete.  This technique provides accuracy, stabilizes the fabric for complex patterns, and is especially useful for creating blocks with small, odd-shaped pieces or sharp angles.

Jean Cody - MIGRATING GEESE FOR SASHING OR BORDERS

Jean will showcase a variation of Flying Geese, one of her favorites for sashings and borders. It appears complex but is actually simple to create. The .pdf contains all the instructions which utilize a technique called Migrating Geese, a technique she learned from Studio 180 Design.

Linda Smith - PARTIAL SEAM PIECING

Linda will be demonstrating the use of partial seam piecing. This simple technique can be used to minimize the need for “y” seams, which can be challenging.

Ruth Ohol - EASY HALF SQUARE TRIANGLES

Bias square technique was big in the 90’s and is rarely used anymore, but its a great way to get really nice half square triangles without cutting or handling any triangles. Sounds too good to be true but its not.
