Jean McCreary
Jean McCreary is a retired Energy & Environmental attorney. Her work enabled her to travel extensively and the photographs from these travels provide inspiration for many of her quilts. It wasn’t until her late 30’s that she taught herself to make traditional quilts.
About 15 years ago, Jean started focusing on collage and applique techniques to achieve a higher degree of realism, and focusing her fabric art mainly on animals and landscapes seen during her travels. She is grateful to instructors such as Melinda Bula, Rosemary Burris, Susan Carlson, David Taylor and Sandra Mollon for giving her the tools to enable these later quilts to better match the inspiration photos and what was in her mind ’s eye.
Six of Jean's quilts have received ribbons and one received a NACQJ Juror’s Award at 2022 and 2024 Quilt Fest Events. One of her quilts (Macaw) was included in a book Stitched Journeys With Birds, by Martha Sielman, and another quilt is traveling with the 2023 Cherrywood (Monarch) Challenge exhibition.
