GVQC News & Updates

September 8th Meeting

Welcome Members and Speaker Sujata Shah

The 2022-2023 club year got off to a wonderful start with many members attending, three joining today, twenty eight renewing their membership today, and five guests.

The program by Sujata Shah was a real treat as she shared her quilting journey in a unique way by starting with a photo tour of her home country, India, and exposure to so much color that led her into art and graphic design, and finally quilting.

Comfort Quilt Update

GVQC members spent some time over the summer break quilting!  Seventy four comfort quilts were turned in at the September meeting.

Linda Traynor, Comfort Quilts coordinator reported that there were 431 quilts turned in during the 2021-2022 club year that ended in June.  These quilts were given to organizations in the Rochester area for distribution to those in need.

Each organization may request up to 25 quilts per year.  Request forms can be picked up at the Comfort Quilts table.

Plans Begin for QuiltFest 2024

QuiltFest 2024 is scheduled for May 17 - 19, 2024 and will be held at the RIT Gordon Field House.

The show committee is looking for several volunteers with specific skill sets, such as using Publisher, a desire to market the show across social and print media, and those with an outgoing personality that would want to get ads for the show program.  If interested, contact the show committee.

The GVQC opportunity quilt pattern has been selected and the committee has already begun getting kits ready.  In a couple of months, the block kits will be ready to be signed out by members to work on.  The quilt will have appliqued blocks.
