Jean Lemmon - Trunk Show, "EPP Knot Just Quilting"
September 2023

Jean Lemmon has been an active member of GVQC for more than 7 years, is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors, and was lead person for setup and takedown of quilts at 2022 QuiltFest.

Jean was a store manager, then district manager for Fabric Centers (JoAnn’s) in the upstate area of New York for 25 years before retiring.  She began teaching quilting and crafting classes in the 1980s sharing her knowledge and skills with others.  She began sewing as a child and sampled a host of crafting projects including porcelain dolls and other crafts.  Before quilting there was sewing doll clothing, wedding dresses, and men's suits.

She fills her days with her long-arm quilting business, “Knot Just Quilting” based in Marion, New York.  Jean is a member of the 4 different quilting guilds and holds leadership positions in several of these, sharing inspiration, motivation and general encouragement to members.  She continues being an active learner and willingly shares her knowledge and skills.

Jean is a prolific quilter with an amazing body of award-winning quilts using many different techniques.  Her “Dear Jane” quilt took first place in judged hand-pieced, hand-quilted category at the 2013 GVQC show. That quilt was composed of 169 five inch blocks, each in different patterns, containing a remarkable total of 5,602 pieces surrounded by a unique scalloped border, all hand pieced and hand quilted.  Some of her other quilt entries have included “Agave Garden,” a Judy Niemeyer foundation paper pieced pattern, “Joy” a Jacqueline DeJonge foundation pieced quilt and Lucy Boston’s “Patchwork of the Crosses” using English Paper Piecing.  She is truly never “knot quilting.”

Workshop: September 8 - "Knot Just Quilting"

Jean Lemmon

Come join us in exploring the world of English Paper Piecing (EPP), a traditional pastime enjoying a new revival.  It’s a wonderful hand work project that is great for traveling or sitting with a cup of tea at the end of the day.

Students will receive a project kit containing paper pieces and fabric.  In the course of the day we will explore the different techniques used to baste the various shapes and make pieced hexis.  We will also explore various other shapes and show how they can be assembled to make intricate projects.  So many items from small pincushions, wall hangings, table toppers to king sized quilts can be made using the English Paper Piecing method.  Join in the fun of reviving this old technique with new fabrics, colors and patterns!
